With multi-vehicle crashes like this, it's even more important than usual to take initial reports with a grain of salt. Put simply, with all of these vehicles involved, authorities can't always have an accurate picture of what really happened. Even if their initial claims are true, there could be extenuating circumstances to consider that went overlooked. Beyond that, however, it's even possible this isn't just one accident. With multiple vehicles colliding, it's possible that some collisions within the chain of events were avoidable, but other drivers did something wrong unrelated to the mistakes that led to the first crash. All of this is basically to shine a light on how challenging an incident like this can truly be. Victims and families show always take steps to make sure they're getting all of the facts, not just what answers seem the easiest.
