Commentary on Car Accident at I-35 & St. Johns in Austin

Something that concerns me with reports like these is Austin media outlets rarely talk about drunk driving incidents. To be clear, I'm not saying I have information about this crash they don't. I wouldn't even necessarily blame the news outlets if they aren't getting information from the authorities. The reason I say this is because statistically Austin has about as serious a drunk driving problem as any other metro area in Texas. Yet failing to bring this to the public eye makes it more difficult to address these issues.

For example, people call me about drunk driving accidents almost very day, and very few of them know about dram shop law. It says that bars and other establishments can be liable for accidents resulting from them illegally over-serving someone. Shouldn't that be something the public knows more about, especially when it can get people some much needed help? A big step in the constant struggle with drunk driving in our communities is information. Talking to the public about things like dram shop can be crucial, which is why I bring it up now. Maybe alcohol had nothing to do with this crash, but these sparse reports certainly don't do much to clarify if that's true or not.
