Mikayla Ayub, Arvin Bartlett III Killed in Motorcycle Accident on Bellfort in Houston, TX

UPDATE (October 28, 2022): I wanted to check back on this crash, and recent details suggest authorities were considering alcohol as a possible factor here. I certainly can't confirm one way or the other, and that would make things rather complex. It could even turn out some local business contributed to this by illegally over serving the driver. But what I said originally in the commentary below still stands: people can't just jump to conclusions. The evidence needs to speak for itself that way the victims' loved ones can move forward with as much clear information as possible. The possibility of alcohol doesn't change that. In fact, it makes that prudence all the more important.

UPDATE (April 5, 2022): Reports confirm that the man injured in the accident succumbed to fatal injuries. That man was identified by officials as Arvin Bartlett III. The woman killed in the accident was identified as Mikayla Ayub. Right now, additional details about the accident are unavailable.

Commentary on Mikayla Ayub, Arvin Bartlett III Motorcycle Accident in Houston

Something to consider in these situations is just how easy it can be for some people to jump to conclusions. When a motorcycle crashes this early in the morning, what are most people going to think? They usually just assume the driver was being reckless, possibly even drunk. That can certainly be a common factor, and it would even be important to look into whether or not a local alcohol provider illegally over-served the driver. But motorcyclists often get unfair treatment from people who just see all riders as reckless daredevils. Without taking proper steps, important details can slip through the cracks.

In reality, motorcyclists can be just as prudent as any other kind of driver. Oftentimes, they're even more careful because they know other drivers don't always keep a proper lookout for the smaller vehicles. That's why it's important the crashes are handled by professionals who will let the evidence speak for itself, not some unfair biases. Maybe the authorities here are being thorough, but it wouldn't be surprising in the least if getting folks help and answers here required more thorough independent investigations.
