Commentary on Auto-Pedestrian Accident on FM 620 in Lakeway

Clearly this is a terrible tragedy and I hope further investigation is able to make more sense of it. Why was the victim on foot in the area? Where did they come from and where were they headed? What about the driver--what were they doing before hitting the road that night? Are there any lights in that area? How visible was the victim at the time? Was the driver watching their surroundings while in motion? Were the vehicle's headlights activated? Is it possible either person wasn't paying attention at the time? If they weren't, what were they doing instead?

I want to be crystal clear that I'm not saying I know more than the news has released and I am making zero accusations against anyone involved. I only mean to say that this incident deserves careful examination to be sure the truth of it is found. Further investigation could find that everything happened in a matter of mere moments and the driver couldn't have done anything differently. However, if carelessness on someone's part was the cause of the victim's life being cut short then it's important that someone be held accountable for that. Only time and further careful investigation could say whether such accountability is needed, but in the meantime it's important not to jump to any conclusions and focus instead on what can be done for the victim's loved ones in this difficult time.
