Commentary on Semi-Truck Accident on I-495 in Chelmsford

Chelmsford, MA Semi-Truck Accident I-495 Route 4

While it's not unusual for there to be so few details after a serious commercial truck wreck, the reports seem to center their focus on the weather. Undoubtedly, winter conditions contribute to serious crashes all the time. However, it's pretty rare for the weather itself to cause a serious crash. Drivers have a responsibility to adjust their behavior for hazardous conditions, and they can usually avoid accidents by doing so. Folks in the New England area should have no qualms with that, and commercial truck drivers should be especially prepared to handle the conditions. In my experience, investigations are likely to show that someone involved in this crash was going too fast, following too closely, had worn tires, or was otherwise doing something negligent. Who that was and what they did will take more thorough investigations than simply blaming the crash on hazardous though entirely predictable weather conditions.
