Commentary on Silvia Gonzalez Car Accident in Hidalgo County

It's obviously very serious that someone was fleeing the police, but I want to focus on the possibility that this driver had been drinking. That may turn out not to be true, and it's possible it wasn't a significant factor if it was true. If it was, however, there could be more to this that needs to be addressed.

Whenever alcohol contributes to an accident, it's important to find out where that alcohol came from. Texas dram shop law says that an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. Could it be that something like that happened here? Just as folks should want to see someone held accountable for causing a crash while fleeing police, they should also want to see consequences for a local business putting their community at risk.
