Dona Brechin Killed in Truck Accident on I-95 in New Castle County, DE

New Castle County, DE -- January 30, 2022, 56-year-old Dona Brechin was killed in a collision with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 in New Castle County.

Authorities say the incident happened around 4:00 a.m. on southbound I-95. Preliminary investigation suggests 58-year-old John White was driving a Ford Focus south on the roadway at speeds below the posted limit. Behind the Ford a Freightliner tractor-trailer approached in the same lane.

Reports indicate the truck driver merged into a center lane to pass the slow-moving Ford but White also merged moments later, causing the truck to hit the back of the passenger vehicle. The two vehicles then exited toward State Route 896 and came to a controlled stop.

Brechin, a passenger in the Ford and reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time, suffered critical injuries in the collision. She was transported from the scene to an area hospital where she died a short time later. No other injuries were reported.
