Three Injured in Dual Truck Accident on I-44 in Rolla, MO

Rolla, MO -- January 27, 2022, three people sustained injuries due to an accident where two semi-trucks collided along Interstate 44.

Investigators were called to the scene of the crash late Thursday night in the Rolla area, near mile marker 184 of I-44.

According to initial reports, a truck carrying Chevy Volt batteries somehow overturned. Following this, another semi-truck then crashed into the first one.

Both truck drivers and a passenger from one of the vehicles sustained injuries. All three were reportedly flown to hospitals.

At this time, the cause of the crash remains unclear.

Commentary on Dual Truck Accident on I-44 in Rolla

A crash like this can be rather complex because there are multiple collisions involved and therefore multiple possible causes for the victims' injuries. It's not as simple as just pointing at the first crash and blaming the entire series of events on it. That could be what happened, certainly. If the first truck driver made a mistake, rolled their vehicle, and the second driver had no way of reasonably avoiding it, then maybe that driver would be on the hook for all of this.

However, one important factor to consider is timing. If the first crash occurred, the occupants were okay, and several moments passed, then it could be that the second collision is what caused the injuries. If that happened, then finding out if the second truck driver should have been able to avoid hitting the overturned truck could show that the first crash was not as big a factor as the second one. Are the authorities looking into all of these possibilities? With three people flown to the hospital, it's important they know all the facts are being considered.
