Commentary on Tracy Scott Cannon 18-wheeler Accident in Abilene

Just to be clear, I don't have any specific reason to doubt these reports. However, I learned throughout my career to take such reports with a grain of salt until more evidence is clear. The authorities can sometimes overlook important details, and jumping to conclusions might seriously impact folks who could otherwise get the help they need.

For example, one concern I always consider is whether or not the victim got to tell their side of the story. Something that comes up a lot when someone is seriously injured is that they're transported to a hospital before officers can speak with them. While most officers have the experience to follow up with them later to finish their reports, not all take this step. That means their reports may not be anything more than the other driver's statement and whatever the officer's initial impressions of the crash scene are.

Regardless of what happened in this crash, if one of my loved ones was involved in an accident, I'd want to know I was getting the full story rather than one person's statement about what happened. Maybe the reports here are more thorough than that, but have steps been taken here to consider other possible factors?
