Commentary on Marvinetta Thomas Accident on Bonnie View Rd in Dallas
I'm this was an unsettling thing to go through, but there at least appears to be some silver lining in that the only injuries received were reportedly minor. I certainly hope that's true, but experience has taught me to always take truck wrecks seriously even when reports say no one was seriously hurt. Quite frankly, they don't always accurately reflect someone's condition after a crash.
For example, I had a case not long ago where a man involved in a commercial vehicle wreck supposedly had "minor" injuries. He wa told to stay off his feet for a few days to let his "sore back" heal, but those days passed and his pain was nearly paralyzing. It turned out the crash ruptured a disk in his spine. Does multiple scans, major surgery, months of rehab, and a lengthy battle with an uncooperative insurance company sound "minor" to anyone? Sure doesn't to me.
That's why we can hope for the best even as we prepare for a worst-case scenario. One prudent step would be making sure experienced investigators gather evidence surrounding what exactly happened here. While there's every likelihood that the victim really escaped with little more than some bruises and a story to tell, at worst she would be over-prepared and never need it. That is undoubtedly a better position to be in than the opposite.
