Commentary on Propane Tanker Accident on Highway 115 in Penrose

There isn't much information about what exactly caused the crash, but a tanker losing control is certainly a sign that something went very wrong. Are the proper steps being taken to find out what that was? It's not always as simple as just finding out if someone was speeding or using their phone. There can be other complex factors the authorities don't always have the experience or tools to look into on their own.

For example, I had a crash not long ago involving a semi suddenly losing control and crashing. Investigators found out that the driver had a medical emergency, so things seemed pretty open-and-shut. Can't really blame a guy for having a sudden medical emergency, right? That's often true, but our investigations showed the issue wasn't all that sudden.

The driver's medical history was essentially a laundry list of red flags. His employer, had they been responsible, would have seen this and recognized that the driver wouldn't have been able to safely do his job. He was a ticking time bomb that would put himself and others around him in serious danger. Instead, that company either never bothered to check or simply didn't care and put him behind the wheel anyway. IT was inevitable that someone was going to get hurt.

This is not the scenario most people would consider after a serious truck wreck. Without the proper training and tools to look into those possibilities, victims and families can easily find themselves facing obstacles they don't have the evidence or legal strategy to overcome. Maybe nothing that complex happened here, but waiting around until it's too late isn't going to help anyone. That's why I always encourage folks to seek out the experienced investigators and allies necessary to overcome these obstacles should they arise.
