Commentary on Linsay Morgan Jones Car Accident in Dallas

Police brought up alcohol as a possibility here, and that's obviously important to consider. Just after 2:00 a.m., it's common for folks to get into an accident on their way home from a bar. What makes that particularly important for those involved in the crash is that those bars can actually be liable for the injuries resulting from those accidents. This is due to dram shop law, which says that an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. Perhaps something like that led to this crash.

With that said, it's also possible police simply brought up alcohol precisely because it's a common factor. Further investigations could show that other factors led to this crash. That's why I always discourage folks from jumping to conclusions after a serious crash. Someone was serious hurt here, and it isn't our job to speculate whether or not she made a mistake. That's what investigations are for, and that's why independent investigations are so important, since they often catch things the police may overlook. Until that happens, it's best folks avoid making hasty assumptions and simply focus on what can be done for those involved.
