Commentary on Corpus Christi Man Semi-Truck Accident on Highway 16 in Atascosa County

With a crash like this, there are very few reasons it happens without the 18-wheeler driver doing something wrong. slowing down for construction is about the simplest thing a driver could do. It's not like there are many construction zones with invisible barrels and signs. So why exactly didn't the 18-wheeler driver here slow down? Well, it's important not to jump to conclusions no matter what the likely explanation is.

The most common factor in these situations is simply driving too fast, following too closely, or distracted driving. Looking into the truck's ECM and GPS data as well as cell phone records could easily reveal the cause of the crash. However, there are sometimes extenuating factors to consider. Were there any mechanical issues? Was the construction zone somehow unnecessarily dangerous? Were there road hazards? Was the truck driver working in dangerous conditions or dealing with distracting supervisors hounding their radio or phone? Did the Dodge do anything erratic leading up to the stop sign? Did the construction worker not make the sign clearly visible?

Even if some of these factors seem completely unlikely, the point is to be thorough and to make sure nothing important slips through the cracks. That's key when it comes to getting folks the help they need. If there are more serious issues that need to be addressed, as well, then those details need to come to light as soon as possible.
