Commentary on Ray Jackson, Dana Susan Jackson, Angel Rivera Car Accident in Hunt County
Since police did not actually confirm alcohol as a factor here, it's important folks avoid jumping to conclusions. However, they also need to understand what it could mean for the victims if alcohol was indeed a factor. While most understand the consequences a drunk driver can face, they may not be the only ones needing to face consequences.
Texas Dram Shop Law says that an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. Bars and other establishments routinely violate the law and send out dangerously intoxicated drivers out onto our roads to get into serious accidents. Yet the news and the authorities almost never take the steps to look into these possibilities. If there is a business out there that benefited off of actions that got others hurt, shouldn't they be held accountable just as drunk drivers are?
That's why it's important to look into crashes like this and the possible factors surrounding them. That's especially true if there are unique avenues to get people the help they need.
