If these allegations are true, then it's obviously good to see a negligent driver face consequences for actions that led to serious injuries. However, in these situations, it's important to find out if the drunk driver is really the only party that needs to be held accountable.

The reason I say this is because of Dram Shop Law. Basically, it says that an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. Put simply, our communities recognized that alcohol providers have a responsibility to handle their product within reason. If they can't do this, they need to be held accountable for the harm resulting from their actions.

That's why Dram Shop is important both as a tool to get people the help they need and to hold reckless businesses responsible for breaking the law and getting people hurt. Unfortunately, it's not unusual for authorities to completely overlook this, leaving victims and families to take steps on their own to seek a resolution. Are those steps being taken here, as well?
