Joanna Campuzano Injured in Car Accident on FM 812 in Bastrop County, TX

Bastrop County, TX -- July 16, 2021, 21-year-old Joanna Alcala Campuzano was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on Farm to Market Road 812 in Bastrop County.

Authorities say the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on FM 812 near Creekwood Trailer. Preliminary investigation suggests Campuzano was driving a Honda Accord sedan east on the roadway. She later told investigators another vehicle slowed in front of her and she attempted to slow in turn but was unable to. She drove off the side of the road to avoid the other vehicle but struck an embankment at an angle, causing it to overturn. The car came to rest on its roof just off the shoulder.

Campuzano suffered serious injuries in the crash. A 2-year-old boy in the vehicle received possible injuries.

Investigators noted finding several 50-milliliter bottles of alcohol in the vehicle's center console, two of which were open. The investigator requested Campuzano's treatment records to determine whether alcohol was a factor.
