Commentary on Transit Bus Accident on Cedar Street in Lansing

With reportedly minor injuries and not much information from police, folks may get the impression this crash is no big deal. In some ways, that could be true, but I tend to say there's no such thing as a simple crash. For example, reports say injuries here were minor.

A case I handled a while back said the exact same thing. Days after the crash, however, a man's sore back turned into immobilizing pain. Another trip to the hospital revealed the crash ruptured a disk in his spine, and he needed surgery. Does that sound minor? What appeared to be no big deal turned into a complex back-and-forth with the trucking company to get them to take responsibility for their driver's actions.

Maybe nothing like that will happen here--I certainly hope not--but making sure victims and families have the tools to get the help they need is important even if it turns out they won't need them.
