Commentary on Transit Bus Accident on Belmont Avenue in Haledon

There isn't much information about what happened here, but there are some clear red flags. This wasn't on a highway or some dark country road. This happened during daylight hours at an intersection with clearly marked crosswalks which appears to be in an area where a professional driver could expect to see pedestrians. So what went wrong here? Well, typically with a commercial vehicle turning through a crosswalk, one of two things is most common. Either the pedestrian wasn't paying attention to the crossing signals, or the driver wasn't keeping a proper lookout and failed to see the pedestrian.

It may seem pretty simple to get answers about what happened here, but folks tend to take for granted that authorities are going to get all the facts. They may do so here, but sometimes these accidents don't get the attention they deserve. For example, I had a case not long ago where authorities couldn't find out what caused the accident, and they essentially just left it in the hands of the victims. It took us tracking down security footage from a nearby business to show what caused the accident.

Like I said, the situation here may be different, but any serious accident warrants more thorough independent investigations. If nothing else, taking steps to make sure victims and families get answers as soon as possible is crucial after an accident like this. Are those steps being taken here?
