Desoto, TX -- April 23, 2021, Janice Marie Moore was injured following an accident where an 18-wheeler crashd in Moore's vehicle at an intersection.

In their reports, officials said that the crash took place at around 4:28 p.m. at the intersection of Beckley Avenue and Wintergreen Road.

Officials reported that 69-year-old Janice Marie Moore was in a Nissan Altima traveling southbound on the service road. A westbound 18-wheeler and a witness claim they had the green light traveling through the intersection, causing the 18-wheeler to crash into Moore's vehicle.

Commentary on Janice Marie Moore 18-wheeler Accident in Desoto

Usually with these preliminary reports, authorities still have some direction with their opinion on the facts. While they relay the apparent statements of the victim not having the right-of-way, they don't make any indication that they confirmed these factors. That could just be them being prudent, but sometimes it's a sign they don't really know what happened. How could that be? Well, sometimes authorities don't have the right equipment, the officer in charge isn't experienced, or sometimes they have to tend to other priorities, and things just slip through the cracks.

That's one of the many reasons I always advocate for independent investigators. Even if authorities ultimately come to a conclusion here, it's always prudent to have a second set of eyes look into the details. At the very least, they can confirm the facts. At best, they can bring to light factors previously overlooked that are crucial for the victims and families involved.
