Commentary on School Bus Accident on Old Highway 42 in Petal

If events happened as they're described, while steps obviously need to be taken to track down the driver that left the scene, this appears to be a clear example of why following distance is so important. A bus driver at an appropriate distance should be able to react to a vehicle ahead of them slowing down, even if it's sudden. There needs to be some consideration into why this bus driver was unable to stop in time.

In the meantime, I'm always concerned when minors are involved in a crash. Sometimes, the true nature of their injuries isn't apparent until some time down the line while the child is still growing. That's why steps should always be taken to make sure they get the best treatment and testing possible. I truly hope no one was seriously hurt here, but, as they say, it's better to be safe than sorry.
