Car Crashes into Building on Padre Blvd, One Injured in South Padre Island, TX

South Padre Island, TX -- March 24, 2021, a 25-year-old man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on Padre Boulevard in Cameron County.

Authorities say the incident happened around 10:45 p.m. on the 2500 block of Padre Blvd near Pike Street. Preliminary investigation suggests the victim was driving a Hyundai Elantra northward on the roadway. The car was traveling at alleged high speeds when it approached the Pike Street intersection, then swerved off the roadway and collided with a building on the corner.

The victim suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to an area hospital.

Police charged the victim with reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Investigators noted a belief that the suspect may have been drinking alcohol prior to the crash.
