1 Killed, 2 Injured in Car Accident on Weedpatch Highway in Bakersfield, CA

Bakersfield, CA -- June 27, 2020, a suspected drunk driving accident claimed the life of one person, and injured two people on Saturday night in Bakersfield, California.

The two-vehicle collision happened at about 8:45 p.m. in the 3000 block of Weedpatch Highway near Muller Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a man traveled southbound in a Mitsubishi Galant at a high rate of speed when he attempted to pass traffic in the opposing lanes. The Mitsubishi then crashed with a northbound Ford Explorer.

The passenger of the Mitsubishi died at the scene. EMS transported two occupants in the Explorer to Kern Medical with injuries of minor to moderate severity. The driver of the Mitsubishi was last seen fleeing the scene on foot.
