Modesto, CA 1 Killed in 18-Wheeler Accident on D Street

Modesto, CA -- March 24, 2020, An 18-wheeler killed a pedestrian late Tuesday morning in Modesto, California.

The fatal accident happened at the intersection of D Street and 9th Street at a little before noon. Witnesses said that an 18-wheeler traveled southwest on D, and began turning onto 9th when a man attempted to walk over the hitch between the trailers. The 18-wheeler, which was still in motion, subsequently ran over the man.

The driver continued onto Highway 99, because he didn't know what had just transpired. Investigators stopped the driver, then questioned him and collected evidence. Modesto police said they are stepping up pedestrian enforcement and education at this time.
