A mother was killed and her son was critically injured in Little Rock, AR after their SUV lost control on a rural road and crashed into a pond during icy conditions. Police said that Jinglei Yi, 39, was driving an SUV along Cooper Orbit Road at about 7:55 a.m. with her son, 5-year old Le Yang, when the vehicle slid on the road and swerved into a nearby pond.

After some confusion with the emergency dispatcher, the police, and the emergency response workers, help came to the scene and Yi and Yang were taken to a local hospital to be treat. Yi, however, died from her injuries a short time later while Yang remained in intensive care. Police are still investigating the accident, including the amount of time it took for the emergency call to be relayed to the appropriate parties.
