Pulaski County, AR — January 7, 2018, a child was killed following an accident in which he was struck by a vehicle following a previous accident.
Arkansas State Police reported that the incident happened at around 7:00 p.m. near Maumelle.
Their report states that the 7-year-old boy was in a vehicle that somehow collided with a 2018 Freightliner along westbound I-40. Those involved in the accident exited their vehicles.
While on the roadway, a Nissan failed to avoid the scene and hit the child. A fourth vehicle, an Acura, also crashed into the first car.
As a result of the incident, the boy died from his injuries. It’s unclear if anyone else was hurt.
Police say roads were wet at the time of the accident. They did not release any additional information.

News sites are often all too eager to report on serious accidents like this one, but there are little to no details about what happened here. That could be due to police withholding information out of prudence, but my concern is that investigators simply don’t know what happened here.
Over the last 28 years, I’ve simply lost count of how many police reports which ended up being incomplete or inaccurate when put under scrutiny by an experienced private investigator. I don’t have any particular reason to believe that’s the case here, but here’s the thing: a young child died in this accident. If there’s even a chance his loved ones don’t know what caused this accident, that simply isn’t acceptable. A serious accident like this warrants as thorough an investigation as possible to ensure those affected get the answers they deserve.
