A Minneapolis, MN nursing home has been issued a citation by the state after one of its residents died in January. Officials report that, on January 2, a man received severe burns due to his bed being positioned too close to an uncovered radiator. The man was taken to a hospital but he died of his injuries on January 29. The accident resulted from the radiator's cover falling off. Workers had previously reported that the covers were liable to fall, but no actions had been taken to fix the problem.
Losing a family member is a devastating experience. It is even more tragic when the accident occurs in an environment that is specifically designed to care for elderly individuals who can no longer care for themselves. When such an accident is caused by another person's negligence, surviving family members may wish to sue for wrongful death. Unfortunately, this is not an easy task. In my experience, even nursing homes will do whatever is in their power to avoid being held responsible for an accident. But the simple truth is this: the law is in place to protect victims and their families, and with the help of a Texas wrongful death statute lawyer, you can be sure that those responsible for your family member's death are held accountable.
