WMATA Workers Sung Oh and Jeff Garrard Killed in Transit Accident
Two automatic train control technicians working for the Washington Area transit system were killed in an accident on Tuesday, January 26th, 2010, at around 1:45 a.m. Sung Oh, 68, and Jeff Garrard, 49, both from Montgomery County, MD, were installing safety equipment on a track that was closed for service for the night. The workers were struck by a large truck equipped to drive on the track when electricity is shut down. One worker died on the scene, the other passed away on the way to the hospital. The Washington Metro system has experienced a series of fatal accidents and mishaps since last year. The biggest being a June collision that killed 8 passengers and the train operator.
We understand that money is not the first thing on your mind after an event such as this. What you may not realize, though, is that employers and their insurance companies often attempt to use your vulnerability immediately following an accident, to their advantage. Most people do not fully grasp the financial burdens that will ultimately fall on the family. Not only will you be billed for medical and final expenses, but you now have one less source of income for your family. A wrongful death attorney understands the damages associated with on-the-job deaths, and knows the proper way of seeking full compensation.
