Bayard, NM — There was a fatal train derailment accident that killed a total of 3 workers last Saturday, November 30, 2013. Authorities in southern New Mexico have identified 50-year old Paulden resident Ann Thompson as one of the deceased workers. The names of the other two haven’t been released yet.
Thompson was aboard a locomotive with two co-workers when, for unknown reasons, they derail as the were passing over a ravine. The locomotive came loose from the tracks and went over the side, plummeting about 40 feet.
The impact of the crash killed Thompson and the other two men aboard immediately.
The train, which belonged to Southwestern Railroads Inc., was hauling iron ore and none of the 8 rail cars derailed or fell over.
Authorities are still trying to determine how the accident happened.
