Lauren Bailey Crisp and Denton James Ward Killed in Car Accident in College Station, Texas
According to KBTX, two people were killed and two others injured in a
car crash in College Station, Texas. The wreck occurred early Saturday
morning, February 18 when College Station police believe 19-year-old
Samantha Bean ran a red light on Texas Avenue and was struck by a truck
that had a green light. Two passengers in the teen's SUV, 19-year-old
Lauren Bailey Crisp and 18-year-old Denton James Ward were killed in the
accident. Bean and another passenger, 19-year-old Tanner Giesen were
injured in the wreck. College Station police continue to investigate the
accident.
Commentary When
passengers are injured or killed in a vehicle whose driver is said to be
at fault, typically their, or their survivor's only effort at obtaining
compensation in the accident is found within a claim against the driver
and their insurance provider. Some view this as a contentious matter,
especially when occupants know each other, but usually I counter with
the question of if it's fair to shoulder the financial burden of an
accident that was not their fault. And indeed, some are mistaken in
thinking that a person's personal assets will always come into play
following an accident.
