Tommy Barrett Killed After Vehicle Ignites in Hereford, Texas
According to the Amarillo Globe-News, a man was killed after his car
exploded in Hereford, Texas. The accident occurred around 6:40 a.m.
Wednesday, February 15 when 56-year-old Tommy Barrett was driving a
Hereford Independent School District car on North Avenue K when the
vehicle exploded. The car became fully engulfed in flames, killing
Barrett at the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
Commentary I'm not
quite sure what to make of this accident just yet. The details are so
scarce and incomplete at this moment, that pulling liability from the
accident would very much be speculation. I can say two things regarding
this terrible accident. First, the vehicle in question must be
meticulously inspected, due to it producing a fatal accident. A cause to
this explosion must be found, so that it does not happen again, and to
allow fault to be established. From the results of the inspection, the
second thing I will say is that the school district could be at fault if
they supplied someone a faulty, unserviced, or unsafe vehicle. Think of
the problems here, had a child been in the vehicle. It is too early to
tell what type of effect will come from the accident, but a cause should
be determined quickly, so that spoliation of the evidence does not
occur.
