Passenger Tania Enamorado Killed in Drag Racing Accident in Dallas, Texas
According to the Dallas Morning News, one person was killed and two others injured in an apparent drag racing accident in Dallas, Texas. The accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. Thursday, January 26 when two cars were racing along South Lancaster Road. A 15-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole, killing 16-year-old passenger Tania Enamorado. The unidentified driver and another female passenger were injured in the accident. The other racing vehicle fled the scene of the accident.
Update: There now appears to be some confusion as to whether or not the vehicles were racing. One report now claims the driver of the errant vehicle was trying to catch up with another vehicle after being stopped at a stop light.
Commentary Drag racing is unacceptable. Simple as that. Driving a vehicle has its dangers on its own, but then to drag race without a driver's license is inviting trouble. I sincerely hope the injured driver and passenger recover from the accident, and my condolences are offered to the family of deceased. A Dallas ISD trustee announced the crash last evening, stating she believed everyone in the vehicle was related. That makes the accident that much more difficult to handle, but I do not believe that means survivors should have to shoulder the full burden without any thought towards compensation. I'd rather not talk about the unlicensed driver, only to say I'm not sure I understand why he was driving to begin with. In civil law, when a party supplies another party with a dangerous instrument which then causes an accident, the first party could be found liable through negligent entrustment. This is a cause of action which is typically manifested through younger individuals involved in accidents, as there must be a way to hold adults accountable when they catalyze a danger.
