Marcus Chapa Killed in Single-Vehicle Accident near Lubbock, Texas
According to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, a man was killed in a
one-car accident south of Lubbock, Texas. The incident occurred around
9:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 11 when the vehicle of 21-year-old Marcus
Chapa veered off the roadway into a ditch and struck a culvert and fence
poles. Chapa was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the
scene. Texas DPS officials continue to investigate the accident.
Commentary When a
single-vehicle accident occurs, it is imperative that a thorough
inspection take place on the vehicle in question. Short of eye witness
testimony, this is more than likely the only route to determine how the
accident occurred and the only way to ascertain if any civil remedies
exist. Though driver error is a much more probable cause,
manufacturing defects or other service-related problems do account for a
significant amount of car accidents. If an investigation into the
accident can link a vehicle's defects to the accident in question, there
could be a claim against a manufacturer or company that provided
service to the vehicle.
