Casey Eggeling Killed in Truck Accident north of Wills Point, Texas
According to KLTV, a teenager was killed in an accident with a
commercial vehicle roughly 8 miles north of Wills Point, Texas. The
accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Friday, January 6 when 16-year-old
Casey Eggeling was struck and killed by a truck on FM 47. DPS Troopers
believe Eggeling and another teenager were together on the road at the
time of the accident. The other teen was uninjured. DPS officials
continue to investigate the accident.
Commentary Conflicting reports regarding this young man's awful death
have made it very difficult to ascertain prospective liability. Some
reports have the victim and another young man sleeping on the roadway. I
find this very hard to believe. In regards to the possibility of civil
restitution, almost every commercial vehicle accident should be examined
by a third party for liability. But when an accident is so
unexplainable, an examination of the accident scene and the truck in
question is absolutely imperative. Normally in my blog, I
offer scenarios towards civil remedies that could result from an
accident. However, in this matter it is extremely difficult to do so.
Even with my experience handling truck accidents over the years, until a
third party starts taking depositions, inspects the truck in question
and the scene, and interviews potential witnesses, any speculation
towards a remedy from this terrible tragedy would be just that.
