Joshua James Brown and Alex Christian Killed, Others Injured in One-Car Accident in Springtown, Texas
The Star-Telegram reports two teenagers were killed and
two others seriously injured in a one-vehicle accident in Springtown,
Texas. The incident occurred around 12:05 a.m. when police believe the
pickup veered off Midway Road, struck several concrete posts and then
crashed into a house. 18-year-old Joshua James Brown and 14-year-old
Alex Christian were killed in the accident, while 15-year-old Halston
McCue and 13-year-old Madelyne Mitchell were critically injured. Texas
Department of Public Safety and Parker County officials continue to
investigate the accident.
Commentary Few
details have been released regarding a cause of the accident, but I can
unquestionably say this is an immense tragedy. We should all keep the
victims and their families in our thoughts. Rather than speculate what
may have happened involving the young people, I'd like to discuss
third party possibilities from the accident. In many accidents
involving young drivers, an investigation is needed to extol issues
like driving record or fitness. What can result is a determination of
negligent entrustment, if an owner of a vehicle knew of a spotty record
but still entrusted an item which could cause injury. In tort law,
negligent entrustment is a cause of action which is needed to begin the
process of seeking remedies from an accident. These include damages like
funeral arrangements, pain and suffering, or loss of consortium.
