Heinz Schlotter Killed in Christmas Day Hit-and-Run Accident in Lake Worth, Texas
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, a man was killed in a Christmas Day hit-and-run accident. The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, December 25 when 59-year-old Heinz Schlotter was struck by what police believe to be a Ford Explorer. Lake Worth police recovered a damaged passenger side window and pieces of windshield from the scene. Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact 817-237-1224.
Commentary Make no mistake about it, the police will find the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle. At the very least, they may face charges of failing to render aid. Once the party is discovered, a third party should then inspect the vehicle in question and couple the damages with the injuries suffered by the victim. It is unfortunate, but at the firm we have litigated several pedestrian accidents where a party was lawfully walking near the road and an inattentive driver struck them. One of these in particular involved a victim who was hit by a passenger side mirror. Through our investigation, we were able to prove that the driver in that accident was distracted by their own actions in the cabin and negligently allowed the vehicle to veer deep into the shoulder of the roadway. Though each accident is different, a scenario like this could provide for standing in a wrongful death claim against a liable party. If successful, a claim like this can aid in damages like pain and suffering, loss of consortium, or loss of financial support the victim provided survivors before the accident.
