Cocke County, TN — A man was killed on I-40 earlier this month (Monday, September 16, 2013) after an accident that appeared to involve a tow truck, an 18-wheeler, and a silver car. Police identified the victim as 33-year old Clayton Ball from Cosby and said that the driver of the 18-wheeler was killed as well, but his name wasn’t released.
The accident happened early Monday morning, just before 7:00 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-40 near exit 443 for Foothills Parkway. The details provided by the Tennessee DOT weren’t very clear, but they confirmed that Ball was a passenger in a tow truck that was rear-ended in an accident.
The reports provided by the local Channel 6 ABC News indicated that an 18-wheeler and what appeared to be a silver sedan were also involved in the accident, but it wasn’t clear which vehicle struck the tow truck.
Ball was killed in the accident and a pallet of lumber being hauled was spilled onto the roadway. Later updates confirmed that the driver of the 18-wheeler was also killed, but his identity wasn’t released.
More investigation was expected into this accident, but no more updates were posted.
