Gainesville, GA — A fatal accident involving an 18-wheeler, a pickup truck, and an SUV left three people dead and six injured last Friday morning, July 12, 2013. One of the victims was later identified by Gainesville PD as 57-year old Lula resident Robbin Chitwood. The names of the others involved in the accident were not listed.
According to the news reports, Chitwood was driving an SUV north along Highway 365 near Howard Road and was behind an 18-wheeler at about 12:30 a.m. last Friday. For unknown reasons, a southbound pickup truck tried to make a left-hand turn in front of the 18-wheeler, causing the commercial rig to crash into it.
The Chitwood’s SUV then crashed into the back of the 18-wheeler, killing her immediately. The driver and a passenger in the pickup truck were killed as well, but their names were not released.
The six injured were taken to hospitals with varying degrees of injuries, but their names and conditions were not available. Further investigation by the GPD is expected.
