Former North Carolina TV Anchor Settles Wrongful Death Suit (Insurance Journal)A former North Carolina television news anchor has reached a settlement in a wrongful-death lawsuit involving the family of a man he ran over and killed while driving drunk. The Winston-Salem Journ Updated 11/20: Father claims wrongful death in fatal DUI crash (Park Ridge Herald-Advocate) The father of a 20-year-old man killed in a Christmas Day crash in Park Ridge has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against a man charged with DUI in the crash. Commissioner files wrongful death suit (The Times of Northwest Indiana)VALPARAISO | Porter County Commissioner John Evans has filed suit accusing the state and the town of Chesterton of contributing to the death of his mother-in-law by failing to properly design the intersection at Ind. 49 and the entrance to the Indiana Toll Road. 'Suicide by Cop' Widow Will Sue City for Wrongful Death (Gothamist) Rachel Aiello, the widow of the ex-NYPD officer Jason Aiello, who was fatally shot in a shootout ruled "suicide by cop" this summer, is preparing to file a wrongful death suit against the city. The Advance reports that a successful motion to preserve 911 tapes of the incident filed by her lawyer last month stated, " [Aiello] was armed, but there was ample opportunity to disarm him without ... LOGAN, W.VA.: Miners' widows settle wrongful death lawsuit (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)The widows of two men killed in a 2006 coal mine fire in West Virginia have settled a wrongful death lawsuit against Massey Energy Co. No details of the settlement, four days into a civil trial, were released.

 

Two young boys are killed when an apartment complex stair case collapses on them in Houston, TX.

On July 16, 2008 two young boys ages 4 and 10 died in a horrible stairway collapse accident in Houston TX. The accident occurred on the southwest side at the Westwood Fountains apartment complex of Houston as several children were playing a game of hide and seek. A second story balcony and staircase collapsed on the children. A third boy, age 9, suffered a broken leg and was rushed to a nearby hospital. The 4-year-old and 10-year-old were buried beneath the rubble and were not removed for several hours due to the fact that the remaining structure was too unstable for rescue workers to dig them out. Officials say that the two boys that died were not related.

This has got to be one of the worst accidents I have ever heard of. I have represented numerous families who have lost a child in my 20 years of practicing wrongful death law but this story just strikes a nerve and I am  shocked. As an attorney I am outraged and I want to see that justice is served and that the responsible parties are dealt with. As a father I simply can not imagine how horrible these children's parents must feel. I will keep them in my prayers. This is truly a tragic story.
