Deal made in Amherst County wrongful-death suit (Richmond Times-Dispatch)A settlement has been reached in the $15 million wrongful-death lawsuit involving a man who died in the custody of the Amherst County Sheriff's Office in 2005.

Houston Police Department Officer Gary Gryder is killed while directing traffic

On June 29, 2008 HPD Officer Gary Gryder was killed by an allegedly drunk driver who lost control of his car in a construction zone. The accident occurred at approximately 5:15 AM where Highway 6 meets Katy Freeway. Gryder and two other officers were on site directing traffic when the driver crashed through a barricade striking Gryder and officer Joe Pyland.

Gryder's body was thrown some 100 feet. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Witnesses say that the driver of the car was seen laughing about the accident.
