Fowlerton, TX — One truck driver was killed and another was critically injured after a semi-truck was in an accident with a tanker truck along Highway 97 in rural Fowlerton on Wednesday morning, June 19, 2013. The accident happened at the intersection of Highway 97 and Highway 72 in the afternoon hours, Texas DPS troopers said.
The details in the accident are still being investigated and the victim’s name has not been released. DPS troopers said that a semi-truck hauling construction equipment was in a collision with a tanker truck hauling barrels of crude oil at the aforementioned intersection. They suspect that one of the trucks failed to stop at a stop sign, causing the wreck.
A large fire started after the impact and both trucks were burned badly. One of the drivers was killed, believed to be the driver of the semi-truck with the construction equipment, and the other was critically burned and taken to a hospital in serious condition.
Further investigation is expected.
