Jerald Jaynes and William Burleson die in fiery big rig accident in Highland, IL.
On Monday, August 9, a big rig accident in Highland, IL
claimed the lives of two people.52-year-old
semi truck driver Jerald Jaynes and 23-year-old William Burleson, a passenger
in the big rig, were identified as the victims.Local news stories indicate that traffic on Interstate 70 was slowed at
approximately 7:00 a.m. due to a previous accident involving a big rig crashing
into an overpass.Allegedly, Jaynes was
approaching the slowed traffic in his big rig truck, but he could not slow down
in time and crashed into another semi truck.The collision caused a chain reaction involved several other
vehicles.Jaynes and Burleson were
pinned in their truck by the collision.The truck soon caught on fire, and despite rescue workers attempts to
free the men, both Burleson and Jaynes died at the scene.No one else was seriously injured.The investigation is ongoing, as police
attempt to reconstruction the accident and determine exactly what happened.
